Berlin Brandenburg Airport opened five years ago. During this time, BER has developed into an efficient, high-performing and forward-looking airport for the capital region. In 2024, it was used by around 25.5 million passengers. Thanks to positive business development, the airport has been generating an operating profit since 2022. BER has received multiple international awards for its development, including being named a “4-Star Airport” by Skytrax.
“In BER, we have enjoyed a trusting partnership for many years. We are delighted with the airport’s positive development and proud to have once again been involved in structuring this refinancing,” says Ingrid Spletter-Weiß, member of the NORD/LB Management Board. “Our participation in the financing package sends a clear signal: NORD/LB stands as a strong and reliable partner at the side of medium-sized businesses,” adds Spletter-Weiß.
“The refinancing package is an important milestone for BER,” says Aletta von Massenbach, Chief Executive Officer of Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH. “Refinancing the old loans under our own steam is a shared success, driven by financial discipline and the strengthened reputation of our company. We are particularly pleased that the positive development at BER over the past five years has been so widely recognised in the banking world. BER and NORD/LB have enjoyed more than 15 years of trusting and constructive cooperation. We thank them and all our banking partners for their confidence and support on the path to financial independence.”
BER pursues sustainable airport operations and has declared sustainability to be an integral part of its corporate strategy. This aspect is also of great importance to NORD/LB as the bank of the energy transition. NORD/LB and BER are thus united by responsible business practices and the promotion of a climate-friendly future.
