Accessibility Statement

This accessibility statement applies to the Norddeutsche Landesbank website published under https://www.nordlb.com/.

As a public body within the meaning of Directive (EU) 2016/2102, we strive to make our websites and mobile applications accessible in accordance with the provisions of the Federal Disability Equality Act (BGG) and the Barrier-Free Information Technology Ordinance (BITV 2.0) implementing Directive (EU) 2016/2102.

Status of compatibility with the requirements

The requirements of accessibility result from §§ 3 (1) to (4) and (4) of the BITV 2.0, which was issued on the basis of § 12d BGG.

The verification of compliance with the requirements is based on a self-assessment carried out on 12.06.2025.

As a result of the review, the website is partially incompatible with the aforementioned requirements due to the following exceptions.

The content listed below is not accessible for the following reasons:

1. Barrier: Videos without subtitles
Embedded videos do not contain synchronous captions or audio descriptions.

2. Barrier: not all PDF documents are accessible
Newly uploaded PDF documents are to be created in an accessible version, older ones (i.e. those created before June 28, 2025) are to be replaced by them.

3. Insufficient color contrast
Individual text elements on the homepage and in selected content areas (e.g. category labels, navigation bars, call-to-action buttons) currently have a contrast ratio below the minimum value of 4.5:1. This applies in particular to smaller font sizes on a colored background.

A complete survey of the affected areas will be carried out as part of the ongoing revision.

4. Non-speaking link texts
Links that consist only of symbols (e.g. arrows or icons) are not understandable to screen readers. It lacks meaningful aria-label attributes or descriptive content.

5. Focusable elements in aria-hidden areas
Interactive content within hidden (aria-hidden="true") DOM elements is accessible to the keyboard, but invisible to screen readers.

6. Multiple Landmarks with No Distinguishable Naming
On various page areas, especially in the header and in the search function, there are several elements without unique aria labels, which makes it difficult for assistive technologies to find their way around.

7. Lists without a correct structure
On individual subpages, especially in the area of the results display and interactive search functions, lists are used that are not semantically correctly labeled. This can lead to screen readers not correctly recording the number or order of entries.

8. Content outside of landmark regions
Individual components, such as search box areas or information boxes on the home page, are located outside semantically structured areas such as or . This makes it difficult for users with assistive technologies to navigate in a targeted manner.

9. Missing "Skip to Content" Link
There is no mechanism to jump directly to the main content with the keyboard.

Planned measures to improve accessibility

The following measures are planned to achieve accessibility:

The identified barriers will be gradually removed as part of a design and technical revision of the website by the end of 2025. These include, in particular:

  • the adjustment of text and background colors to maintain the required contrast ratio,
  • the retrofitting of meaningful aria labels for symbol links,
  • the correction of semantic markups of list and navigation structures,
  • the removal or correct configuration of focusable elements in aria-hidden areas,
  • as well as the implementation of a "Skip to Content" link to improve keyboard navigation.

In addition, the website is continuously checked for new barriers that may arise in the course of editorial or technical developments. Discovered barriers are documented and promptly included in the processing process.

Content that goes beyond legal requirements

The following content was implemented in order to achieve a higher level of digital accessibility beyond the legally required requirements:

  • The website is fully responsive and optimized for different screen sizes.
  • Moving content such as sliders or videos do not start automatically, reducing distractions or barriers for people with cognitive impairments.
