  • Reinhold Hilbers: "Thanks to Thomas Bürkle, the bank has very good prospects again, Jörg Frischholz will continue the transformation"
  • Ingrid Spletter-Weiß succeeds Günter Tallner

As announced, Jörg Frischholz (45) will take over as Chairman of the Managing Board of NORD/LB Norddeutsche Landesbank on 1 January 2022. He succeeds Thomas Bürkle (68), who is retiring. The appointment of Frischholz to head the bank was already made and communicated in June. He comes from HypoVereinsbank, where he was board member for Private Customers. He already took up his position as a board member of NORD/LB on 16 November.

Also on 1 January, Ingrid Spletter-Weiß (55) will take over Günter Tallner's (59) position on the Managing Board of NORD/LB. She was previously responsible for global credit risk management for corporate customers at Commerzbank. Spletter-Weiß already joined the Managing Board of NORD/LB on 1 December.

Reinhold Hilbers, Finance Minister of Lower Saxony and Chairman of the Supervisory Board of NORD/LB, praised the achievements of the outgoing Chairman of the Managing Board: "Thomas Bürkle took over the management of the bank in an extremely difficult situation. He did not avoid the challenges ahead, but tackled them resolutely. Thanks to his clear course and a successful restructuring process, NORD/LB has very good prospects. The fact that the bank is now so well positioned in the market again is mainly Thomas Bürkle’s merit."

With regard to the new Chairman of the Managing Board of NORD/LB, Hilbers said: "Jörg Frischholz is a banker with a passion. He will continue the transformation with a particular focus on the customer perspective and the digitalisation of the bank. The topic of sustainability is also very close to his heart. This is already evident after his first few weeks on the Board. We are pleased that we were able to win Jörg Frischholz for this responsible position."

Commenting on the departing Managing Board member Günter Tallner, Hilbers said: "Günter Tallner took over and successfully realigned NORD/LB's corporate customer and capital market business during a turbulent phase for the bank. During the onset of the Corona pandemic, when the market environment was characterised by extreme uncertainty, he led his business units through the crisis with a steady hand. I am very grateful to him for that."

Hilbers continued: "With Ingrid Spletter-Weiß we have been able to bring a strong and experienced bank manager to NORD/LB. She is very familiar with both the customer and the risk side of the business. I am pleased that we now have a woman on the Managing Board of the bank again. The fact that she comes from Lower Saxony and has always maintained ties with her homeland is a good prerequisite for her new tasks."
