International presence with north German focus
NORD/LB is a universal bank at the heart of northern Germany and is clearly focused on its core business with special attention paid to the region. The company's headquarters in Hanover, Braunschweig and Magdeburg mark the roots of the bank in its supporting states of Lower Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt.
NORD/LB looks back on a one hundred year old tradition. In 1970, Norddeutsche Landesbank Girozentrale emerged from the merger of four predecessors: Braunschweigische Staatsbank (established in 1765), Hannoversche Landeskreditanstalt (established in 1840), Niedersächsische Landesbank Girozentrale (established in 1917) and Niedersächsische Wohnungskreditanstalt Stadtschaft (established in 1918).
As a commercial bank, we offer an extensive range of financial services to our private, corporate and institutional customers as well as public sector customers. In the area of structured financing, we are involved in aircraft financing and in international projects at select locations in the sectors of energy, infrastructure, industry and real estate. Globally, we are represented in all important trading centres such as London, New York, Shanghai and Singapore through our branches and representative offices.
NORD/LB does business as the Landesbank for Lower Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt and assumes the responsibilities of a central bank for savings banks in the federal states of Lower Saxony (43 savings banks), Saxony-Anhalt (13 savings banks) and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania (10 savings banks). The NORD/LB Group possesses more than 100 locations in Braunschweig country through Braunschweigische Landessparkasse (an institute in an institute).
As a central bank for savings banks, we are a partner of the savings banks in Lower Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. Beyond these three federal states, we also operate as a service provider for individual savings banks. Furthermore, in our role as a Girozentrale, we offer all the services that are relevant for the savings banks we support.
Finally, the bank's activities include the development business. Investitionsbank Sachsen-Anhalt (Saxony-Anhalt Investment Bank) and Landesförderinstitut Mecklenburg-Vorpommern (Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania State Development Institute), which belong to the NORD/LB Group, advise the respective state governments. The development banks are also contacts for development questions in their respective federal states: They offer their customers consulting services for all issues related to development and support them in filing applications for programmes.
Our self-conception as a bank is shaped by this regional combination, which is also reflected in our business model. We regularly rework this to react to the constantly changing conditions and to prepare ourselves for new challenges. With our north-German focus and simultaneous international presence, we are well situated and will also be able to successfully address the challenges awaiting us in the future.
In addition to business involving private, individual, commercial and small-business customers, this segment also includes small and medium-sized corporate customers in the Braunschweig region.
