Bavaria’s largest greenhouse
The greenhouse facility that is spread across 19.6 hectares at Gemüsebau Steiner GmbH & Co. KG - a vegetable growing business - is the biggest of its kind so far in Bavaria. Yet, it is not only the size of the facility that is remarkable - all the heating requirements of the facility are covered by a carbon-neutral geothermal spring.
Moreover, there is a sustainable water supply arrangement for the plants in that all the rainwater is collected from the roof surfaces. Furthermore, part of the energy requirement is self-generated with a photovoltaic system. As the vegetables are sold within the region, there are no long transport routes and the costs associated with them are not incurred. NORD/LB is financing this concept together with another business bank.
Light, space and air
NORD/LB financed a modern dairy cattle facility, with a lot of light, space and air for 690 cows, in North Thuringia.
Moreover, the external rotary milking parlour for 50 cows enables an efficient milking routine.
Constructing a biogas plant near the farm, at the same time, made it possible to tap into synergies as the animals supply a significant proportion of the substrates that are required. The biogas plant achieves a power output of 795 kW and also supplies local heating energy consumers.
